How old do you have to be to attend classes or shows at The Public?
Most student theater classes are designed for students ages 10-17. Adult playwriting and acting classes are open to those 18 years of age and older. The Shakespeare Monologue and Scene Contest is open to students in grades 4-12.
If you are interested in attending a production at The Public and are unsure of the appropriateness of a particular show, you can contact Rob Zellers, Director of Education & Outreach, at 412.316.8200, ext. 715, for help selecting which shows are the best fit.
How much does it cost to attend classes and performances at The Public?
Thanks to generous underwriting, the Shakespeare Monologue & Scene Contest and Creative Dramatics are free of charge. Theater classes range from $50 to $325. Some financial assistance is available. Student tickets are available at $15.00 per ticket for full-time students and anyone 26 and under (a $.50 district fee will be added upon purchase).
When do classes and programs take place at The Public?
Student Classes & Workshops and Adult Classes are offered at various times throughout the season. Each course runs for two or three weeks and meets three to five times a week.
The 15th annual Shakespeare Monologue & Scene Contest will be held at the O'Reilly Theater in March 2009.
Are there opportunities for students to audition for plays at The Public?
If we are producing a show with young actors in the show, then we'll hold auditions for young actors. Auditions at The Public are on a show-by-show basis throughout the season. They are posted on this Web site and in local newspapers approximately two weeks prior to the auditions.
Does The Public offer tours of the O'Reilly Theater?
Free tours of the O'Reilly Theater are available to school groups and other organizations by appointment. For information, contact Becky Rickard, Group Sales Manager, at 412.316.8200, ext. 704.
I'm a teacher. How do I bring my group or class to the theater?
We encourage school groups to attend the Open Stage student matinees. Please view the Open Stage section of this Web site for the Open Stage schedule.
Any group may attend evening and weekend performances. All seating is based on availability.
